Medicare

Patients with chronic health conditions may be eligible for referral to an Allied Health professional under Medicare’s Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) scheme.

A chronic medical condition is one that has been (or is likely to be) present for six months or longer, for example, asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, musculoskeletal conditions and stroke.

An EPC referral entitles the patient to a maximum of 5 individual Medicare-subsidised sessions with an Allied Health provider in each calendar year. Depending on your condition, patients can be referred to multiple Allied Health providers to achieve the best team care approach for their health. Please speak to your General Practitioner to discuss your eligibility for an EPC referral.

DVA

Veterans with chronic health conditions may be eligible for funding from The Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) for allied health services.

Veterans should speak to their General Practitioner to discuss whether their health condition(s) entitles them to a DVA referral.

The aim of DVA funded Exercise Physiology is to:

  • assess the entitled person and design an individualised exercise program that addresses their referred clinical condition
  • provide the entitled person with the skills to manage the exercise component of their treatment on their own, through exercise

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist can treat a DVA entitled person who has both:

  • a referral from their medical practitioner, medical specialist or hospital discharge planner which includes a diagnosis informing of the patient’s condition requiring clinically necessary treatment
  • a Gold Card for all conditions or a White Card where the referral for treatment is for a war caused or service related condition accepted by DVA

Further information about DVA funded allied health service can be found on the Department of Veterans Affairs website.

Workcover

For those who have experienced a work-related injury or illness. We work with Workcover claims to assist in injury rehabilitation and to facilitate a safe and efficient return to work. To begin your Workcover claim, your GP will need to provide a Work Capacity Certificate, which is provided to your employer and submitted with your claim.

Exercise physiology services can assist with physical and psychological injury rehabilitation. We understand everyone’s goals, recovery journey and timeframe are very individualised. We work with the affected individual and their other medical and allied health professionals, to develop a structured rehabilitation plan and support your recovery process.

Telehealth

Telehealth services delivered online! We use zoom to be able to chat with you, just like we would if you were here in our clinic. Through this platform we are able to assess, prescribe and deliver effective rehabilitation programs, progressing where necessary.

Allied health care should be accessible to all during these times, which is why we offer these services to current and new clients who choose to self-isolate or to those who live in rural and remote Australia.

As part of your Telehealth consultation we will email you detailed exercise videos and descriptions, which can be conveniently accessed on your phone or computer. As with all our consultations, if you are ever unsure about an exercise that has been prescribed or any questions about your injury, please feel free to email your exercise physiologist or physiotherapist directly for confirmation or reassurance at any time.
